Cursed Wombat Logo Study by ElsonWong Cursed Wombat Logo Study by ElsonWong
I'm getting really pumped up for this new graphic novel series!

Sorry for the lack of drawings being posted but I'm going to take my time to really do lots of research and preparation for Cursed Wombat and make it a project worthwhile pursuing.

Today I've just completed an official logo to identify with the series. It's bold, non-obscure, and semi-fancy. I didn't want the logo to have too much detail. I decided to keep it simple so that people can instantly recognise it.

The colour choice was a last minute thing. Originally it was going to be a dull and neutral WHITE + DARK GREY combination. However adding a dash of GREY + LIGHT ORANGE really brought it to life, it contrasts well with the MAROON colour blending in the shadows of the font.

For your curiosity the dialogue font that will be used in the graphic novel will be my own handwriting (non-caps). You can actually see this at the very top of this logo study sheet - the one that is in 'all-caps'. It actually looks ugly when it's all caps but when it's posted in lowercase it's actually not bad (i.e. when it's used for dialogue for the graphic novel).

Nevertheless the final design that I'll be using is the one featured below that is blending with the light orange background. Additional support text that will compliment the site will be the one just next to it (i.e. the website URL).

If you would like to check out these fonts they can be all found in BLAMBOT.com - one of my top favourite sites for downloading fonts (both free-fonts and pay-fonts available). Credits to the fonts used are listed below.

I actually quite like the color-scheme going on around here, it seems very fitting for the theme :)
Great choice though to taking something simple so it is recognizable, already a few of them speak out unique and can be great recognizable by the eye of a reader. I don't know, but I love the one that's in the orange box/strip kind of thing :D That one catches my eye the most.

I was thinking of doing my own handwriting for my series, but my writing isn't very legible (correct use of word?) when I write in lowercase :XD: That's a great idea though :D

Don't worry about not getting a lot of drawings in, I'm actually excited to see how the novel turns out. Good luck! :aww:

Want your own handwriting digitalised for your convenience? This was what I used thanks to Jason Brubaker's recommendation. ;) [link]

It'll cost you some dough but it's worth it if you want to personalise your comic. :) Still for a fan comic the fonts at blambot are more than suffice to get started! If you still want to handletter your work, that's great too! Lots more work though! :giggle:

And yes legible is very correct! Thanks for your feedback as always BlazeCake, now no more milk for you! It'll drive you silly. :giggle:

Yes I do actually :XD: I can't find a proper font really to use for this. Interesting.. Though, I'll have to think about it, but perhaps for now I will just go with some other fonts since I'm not willing to use some money right now :XD:
I think I'll go check out Blambot for sure :)

You're welcome! Can't wait to see your graphic novel :dummy: I'll be sure to read it!
:iconlazycryplz: Oh.. But I love milk, I think someone put catnip in mine last time :giggle:

From looking at all the logos displayed, I would probably choose the second set because the jagged line effects and the positions of the letters express the action genre by itself. While on the other hand, the 4th, 5th, 7th, & 9th-12th set of fonts are ones that I do NOT recommend since some of those fonts are widely used, some are too compressed to the point where I cannot read the logo, and the line style has a plain or serious genres. For your final logo design, I do like the color choices since we know the color of the wombat being light-orange & the grey that's perfect to associate with malevolence. My only concern with the final design are the spacings between the letters, such as the "C" & "u" in Cursed where the two are merged as well as the "W" & "o" in Wombat. I'm no pro in type, but of all, your final design does well out of the other logo choices.

Thanks for sharing your insight on the fonts and logo design - it's really good to hear an opinion on what NOT to use for fonts - I assume your read a lot of web-comics yourself?

Yes that merger of letters is actually a design choice. I wanted to make it look more unique then just the basic neutral width all the letters share in that box. But nevertheless thank you for pointing out your honest thoughts about what may work well and whatnot - I may reconsider but so far I'm liking what I see! :)

wow those fonts looks pretty dynamic and stylish, and fits with the title as well. Nice fonts, they all look equally great, but *shot*there still has to be one after all XD

Well honeslty, I think the last second one is also very nice(I don't know, just a feeling I had :XD:), but I see you want to(correct me if I'm wrong) add some "rough"effects in the fonts in order to correspond the character/story in your graphic novel series, so I see how you did in that one you choose.
Its pretty cool how you show us these to us, so that more of us feels more informativ and engaged in this series as you develop :D

Thanks Missyuna! :D

Yup that is the intent of having those 'rough-edged' textures added to the text for a bit of character. So far I'm pleased with what you guys and gals came back with for feedback. I'm happy to know what may work and what may not based on the experience of others appreciate art (not just comics). ^^

Anyways on to my next drawing! Ash is going to be brutal. :D

Sweet! I noticed you have a website listed on the bottom. Does that mean you have one up for the series already?
